The Power of Encouragement

1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
This verse reminds us that encouragement is not small or meaningless. A few kind words can calm a worried heart or give someone confidence again.
Personal comment: I notice that even a short message from a friend can lift my mood. It shows how powerful simple encouragement can be.
Building Others Through Words
When the verse says build one another up, it compares our words to building blocks. We can strengthen someone’s faith, help them feel supported, or remind them that they matter.
Personal comment: I have learned that when I speak gently and kindly, people open up more. It creates a safe space for real connection.
Encouragement Is a Daily Practice
Paul adds, just as you are doing. This means the early believers were already encouraging each other, but Paul wanted them to continue. Encouragement is not a one-time thing. It is a habit we grow into every day.
Personal comment: I find that the days I choose to encourage someone, I feel more peaceful inside too. It helps both the giver and the receiver.
Noticing the People Around Us
Many people carry silent struggles. A gentle word, a prayer, or a small act of kindness can make their day feel lighter. Sometimes God uses our voice to remind someone that they are not alone.
Personal comment: Sometimes I feel God telling me to message someone out of nowhere, and later I find out they really needed it. Moments like that remind me that God works through simple actions.
Living Out the Verse
This verse is a guide for how we should treat people: lift them up, not tear them down. Show grace instead of judgment. Speak life instead of negativity.
Personal comment: I am still learning this, but every time I choose kindness over anger, I feel I am growing into a better version of myself.
A Small Step for Today
Let this verse guide your day. Think of one person you can encourage today. Send a message, say a kind word, or simply pray for them. A small act may bring someone the strength they need.
Personal comment: I try to do at least one small encouraging action each day. It keeps my heart soft and makes my faith feel active, not just spoken.
